Real Madrid’s goalkeeper Andriy Lunin might change clubs within Spain during the winter transfer window. Villarreal is interested in having the Ukrainian goalkeeper, as reported by Okdiario.
“Yellow Submarine” had shown interest in acquiring the goalkeeper last summer, but a transfer agreement couldn’t be reached at that time.
Reportedly, that Real Madrid isn’t keen on letting go of Lunin in winter, especially considering that the primary goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, won’t return to action before April. Consequently, if the Ukrainian were to depart, Carlo Ancelotti would solely rely on Kepa Arrizabalaga between the goalposts.
Lunin started this season as Kepa’s understudy but has recently gained more playing time due to the Spaniard’s injury. The Ukrainian goalkeeper has featured in a total of 6 matches for Real (4 in La Liga, 2 in the Champions League) this season, conceding 4 goals and securing three clean sheets. His contract with Real Madrid ends in the summer of 2024.
Real are right now one of the leaders of La Liga. Today, on December 2nd, Ancelotti’s team will face Granada. Villarreal is positioned in 12th place in the league standings.
