From 6 to 8 July 2023, the first Africa-Spain Cooperation Forum will be held in Madrid, organised by One Africa Forums, a platform that seeks to promote dialogue and partnerships between the two continents. The Eurostars Tower in the Spanish capital will host the event.
More than 500 people, including heads of state and government, ministers, businessmen, investors, consultants, NGOs and members of the media, will attend the event to discuss issues of shared interest, including migration management, sustainable development and security in the Sahel.
The forum is part of the Focus Africa 2023 strategy, approved by the Spanish government to strengthen its external action in and with Africa, based on five strategic objectives: peace and security; sustainable development; inclusive economic growth; institutional cooperation; and mobility and migration.
Maryama Kadaoui, project manager of the event states that “Africa wants to diversify, wants to open its horizons and find new partners. And the most logical partner is Spain. Hence the great idea of hosting this event in Madrid and for Spain to host Africa for three days”.
Spain, which is only 14 kilometres away from Africa, and with a GDP growth of 5.5% (2022) is a key European player and the tenth largest economy in the world. Spain’s economy is diversified and solid, performing well in areas such as the automotive industry, agricultural production, energy, tourism, infrastructure construction, and a strong manufacturing force focused on exports and is key to the investment and diversification of the African economy.
Africa, on the other hand, is the continent of the future. With a wide range of opportunities, from a young and dynamic population to a huge potential for growth, Africa is open to expand its horizons and to intensify and diversify its economy beyond its traditional partners.
The forum will be a unique opportunity for African leaders to standardise their relations with one of the world powers, which can bring great added value to Africa’s coveted sectors such as infrastructure, industry, technology, financial services and R&D.
The Africa-Spain Cooperation Summit is a forum to promote cooperation between Africa and Spain and an unmissable event for all those who want to learn about the opportunities and challenges offered by the African continent and strengthen ties with one of its closest and most important neighbours.
