Russia repeatedly flies combat missions to Ukraine from the border region of Belgorod. A plane will now crash when returning from a mission. The pilot dies. An initial assessment of the cause of the accident has already come from Moscow.

According to the Ministry of Defense, a Russian fighter plane crashed in an uninhabited area in the Belgorod border region with Ukraine. According to the Ministry in Moscow, the pilot died, according to the Russian state news agency Interfax. The fighter jet was therefore returning from a mission. According to initial findings, there is a technical reason for the crash, it said in Moscow. Russia also flies combat missions in the war zone in Ukraine from the region.

Defender of the Fatherland Day is celebrated in Russia today. On the occasion of this, President Vladimir Putin paid tribute to the deployment of the troops in Ukraine yesterday, Wednesday. “I just heard from the country’s top military leadership that at this moment a battle for our people is raging on our borders,” said the Kremlin chief in front of tens of thousands of spectators at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium. “They (the soldiers) fight heroically, bravely and bravely. We are proud of them.”

Then the 70-year-old called out to the crowd waving Russian flags: “In your honor: a triple “Hurrah”!” And then: “Hooray! Hooray! Hooray!” Men and women were shown next to him who are said to have already been deployed in the “special military operation,” as the Kremlin continues to call the war against the neighboring country.

Before the plane crash that has now become known, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov had announced in Belgorod that the situation there was under control. According to Russian information, the border area is repeatedly fired at from the Ukrainian side. Since the start of the war ordered by Putin on February 24 last year, civilians have died and numerous people have been injured. In addition to the Belgorod region, the Russian regions of Kursk and Bryansk are also affected. However, the numbers are in no way comparable to the many thousands of dead and injured Ukrainian civilians.
