Moroccan-Spanish football player Salim El Jebari turned down the offer to play for Spain’s national U-19 team, choosing instead to represent Morocco.
According to reports in the Spanish media, the striker was called up by the Spanish U-19 team to play in a friendly match against Norway. However, he contacted the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RREF) to turn down the offer.
Salim El Jebari is considered one of the most promising players in the Atletico de Madrid youth system. He recently extended his contract with the club and will be training in their camp until 2025.
The young striker played on earlier occasions with the lower categories of the Spanish national team. However, he now decided to switch camps and play with Morocco, the report notes.
The report indicates that the player hasn’t yet received an invitation to play with Morocco’s national U-19 team.
With this decision, Jebari has joined a long list of international dual or multiple nationality football players of Moroccan descent who chose to represent Morocco’s Atlas Lions. The illustrious list includes world-class stars like Achraf Hakimi and Hakim Ziyech, among many others.
